RELIGION OF EGYPT

In Ancient Egypt, people believed in many gods. Religions that worship more than one god are called polytheistic. In addition, it was not uncommon for people to think gods and goddesses controlled everything. When things in the country were not going well, the people believed the pharaoh and the priest were to blame. There are several creation myths, which developed in various locations in Egypt. One in the new kingdom is about Khnum the ram-headed god of Elephantime.

Egyptians believed that making a god happy could make it rain or make their food grow. Egyptians believed that if they prayed to the gods and made offerings, the gods would be happy and good things would happen. One way to make an offering is o leave some food next to the statue of a god. Another way is to have a feast and a celebration. The Egyptians built temples for their gods, where people prayed, worshipped, and asked for advice. The Egyptians thought that each god was in charge of a different natural force. These temples were like houses for the gods, and each god had their own temple.
