SOCIAL STRUCTURE OF EGYPT

The Ancient Egyptian social pyramid is split into six pieces. At the top of the pyramid was the richest and most powerful and at the bottom was the poorest and the workers. For example, at the top was the pharaohs. They had the most power because they had to keep the gods happy so the Nile would flood and the Egyptians could have good harvest. Next on the top of the pyramid was the vizier. The vizier was important to the Egyptians because the vizier was the pharaoh’s chief and sometimes the high priests. The vizier was also responsible for the food supply. The next important Egyptian on the social pyramid was the scribes and the soldiers. The scribes were the only people who could read and write. They also recorded things that were harvested. The soldiers were responsible for defending the city-state and the people. The next important was the craftsman because of the pottery and other things they made. At the bottom of the pyramid were the slaves and the farmers. The slaves were usually prisoners who worked for the kingdom and did things that needed to be done such as working in mines and temples. The farmers took care of food and the crops and the irrigation system.
