SOCIAL STRUCTURE OF EGYPT

In ancient Egypt there were different social classes.

  • The first class is the pharaohs, people who ruled kingdoms. People believed that pharaohs were gods in human form. Some examples are King Tut and Ramses II.

  • The second level of the social structure was the vizier. The vizier was the chief advisor to the pharaoh and was also the high priest. They also were responsible for overseeing administration on the supply of food and for protecting the household and many other things.

  • Another person on the social structure are the soldiers. They were responsible for the defense of the country.

  • Our last level of the social structure are slaves. Slaves were usually prisoners who were captured during a war. Slaves could usually be found in the households of pharaohs and nobles or working in mines.

These are the social classes of Egypt.

Back in ancient Egypt they had a social structure. If you were a farmer, servant, or slave, you were treated differently. They way they were treated was the peasants were working n the fields producing crops, while the servants were in homes of wealthy nobles. The peasants often worked on large building projects for the government. Slaves were prisoners of war. Farmers lived in houses made of mud bricks.

The people above farmers, slaves, and servants in the social structure were scribes and craftsmen. Scribes were very important because they had to memorize hieroglyphic symbols, and the scribes were the only people who knew how to read and write. Some thing about the craftsmen is they worked year-round and they were also called goldsmiths, rock cutters, and painters.

The people above craftsmen and scribers were nobles. They were related to the pharaoh. They also oversaw the lands worked by peasants.

The top, top dog of the social pyramid is the pharaoh. The pharaoh was in charge of all of the people in the social pyramid and he was also considered a son of Ra, one of the most important gods.
