TYPES OF GOVERNMENT

There are many types of governments in the world that can be categorized into the eight types below. Some types allow their citizens more rights and freedoms; others require more responsibilities from their people. The types of government can also be cruel. Some laws make people feel like they still live with their parents.

  •  The first type of government is anarchy. Anarchy means there is no government in place. This government is nowhere today.

  • The second one is an absolute monarchy. An absolute monarchy is when a royal family rules with all the power and control. Power runs through family. Absolute monarchy is in Saudi Arabia and Jordan today.

  • A third type is dictatorship. Dictatorship is to rule through one person who took power. Dictatorship is in North Korea and Cuba today.

  • Another type of government is oligarchy, which means to be ruled by a few based on race, religion, or military control Oligarchy is still in China and used by terrorist groups.

  • A fifth type of government is direct democracy. This is when citizens take part in all decisions for the country. All people are members of the government. In direct democracy if you want to make a change or add something to the country, you would have to vote for it. Direct democracy is in parts of Switzerland’s government.

  • The sixth type of government is a representative democracy. This means to be ruled by the people through elected representatives. This is in the United States and Mexico.

  • The seventh one is constitutional monarchy. This means citizens elect representatives. A king or queen is given boundaries for power by a constitution. Constitutional monarchy is in Japan and the United Kingdom.

  • The eighth type of democracy is theocracy. Theocracy is ruled by religious law, where god is the ultimate authority. Theocracy is in Iran and Saudi Arabia.
